Rajola Gaudí 1904 is a replica of the original hydraulic cement tile Antoni Gaudí designed in 1904 and that was laid on the floors of Casa Milà, La Pedrera, in Barcelona. It is a 20 cm hexagonal tile, with the relief as originally designed and the three sea motifs of the pattern: a starfish, a conch shell and seaweed.
Gaudí drew this tile for the floors of Casa Batlló, but it was first laid at La Pedrera. In 1997 the design was reissued to pave Passeig de Gràcia, with the relief inverted to stand up to foot traffic. This piece reproduces the original 1904 model.
Each piece is handmade by Mosaics Martí, the hydraulic tile workshop Bernat Martí opened in Manresa in 1913 and his grandchildren revived in the 1980s. They still work the traditional way: the colour is poured by hand into the mould, the piece is pressed and left to cure naturally, without firing. That is why every tile shows slight variations in tone and texture that make it one of a kind.
It comes wrapped in an embossed card band that reproduces the paving pattern. A collector's piece for lovers of Modernisme, and a meaningful gift for the Gaudí centenary (1926-2026). To display it upright, pair it with the Suport Fusta 20 wooden stand, sold separately or as a pack with the tile.
